Becoming enamored and impressed with X’s GROK capabilities over the last year, I recently tested its AI engine with a simple request: to paraphrase the entire Psalms into English poetry using an ABAB rhyme scheme in iambic pentameter. Remarkably, it completed the task in under four hours.
As a point of reference, I spent several years translating thirty-one Psalms into a similar poetic format during a personal relationship challenge nearly twenty-five years ago. Here’s one:
Psalm 23
A Psalm of David
The Lord is my shepherd; I’ll not be in need.
In green pastures makes me to lie down and feed.
By still waters leading; my soul He’ll restore;
In righteous paths leading me, His name’s sake for.
Through death’s shadowed valley, no evil I’ll fear;
You’re with me; Your rod and staff’s comfort is near.
You ready a table in front of my foes;
My head, oil-anointing; my cup overflows.
So goodness and mercy shall follow my days:
I’ll dwell in the house of the Lord for always.
GROK’s translation of the Psalms employs modern, accessible language while retaining key Hebrew terms and imagery. The rhymes alternate and follow a consistent iambic pentameter, aiming for a lyrical flow reminiscent of Shakespearean sonnets. Each psalm maintains thematic coherence, whether short or long, capturing the essence of the originals.
My current task is to format and load these Psalms into WordPress and generate an AI image that conveys the essence of each Psalm. To ensure the blog posts are in chronological order, I began with the oldest, Psalm 150.
